Attendance and Absence

Absence

We would expect parents/carers to inform the school office by 9.30am by phone (01977 794179) you can leave a message on the absence line at any time, day or night, if your child is unwell and unable to attend school the next day. Do not leave messages regarding absence on Dojo or Facebook Messenger. If we have no reason for the absence by 9.30am a member of the office staff will try to contact you regarding the absence. If we are not able to make contact, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and a home visit may take place.

Illness

Is my child too ill for school? Click this link for NHS advice for common childhood illnesses and whether they should attend school or not – Is my child too ill for school? – NHS

Medical Appointments

All medical appointments should be made outside of school hours where ever possible. We do understand that this is not always possible and in that instance we would expect to be notified if your child has a medical appointment and would need to see any letters or messages confirming appointments. These can be sent to the school office via email: admin@stgilesce.net or sent via Class Dojo to the Office Dojo, or they can be shown in person to a member of the office staff.

Punctuality

Punctuality is an important social convention and late arrivals disrupt the routines of the school. Doors and registration for all classes, Reception to Class 6, will be open from 8.40am – 8.55am. Lessons will start at 8.50am (Foundation & KS1) and 8.55am (KS2). We would therefore request that parents make every effort to ensure that their children are in school five minutes before your child’s start time.

If your child is late

All children arriving after 8.55am should enter school via the school office to get a late mark and order their dinners. If you know that your child is going to be late please ring the the school office and leave a message on the absence line so that we know to expect this and approximately when your child is expected to arrive.
